M42, Orion Nebula
M42 is an impressive star-forming region combining reflection and emission nebulosity, classified as an H II region. At its heart lies the famous asterism known as the Trapezium, a group of young, massive stars arranged in a trapezoidal pattern, hence its name. This asterism, one of the nebula’s most prominent features, contributes to its brightness and makes it visible even to the unaided eye in the constellation Orion.
